Spencer Hooper
Spencer Hooper is the Executive Director for Students Run Oakland (SRO). Since the program's inception in 1999, Students Run Oakland's mission has been to prepare disadvantaged students to meet daily life challenges and teach them that they can reach goals regardless of their circumstances. Under Spencer's leadership, SRO delivers on its commitment to improve the health of young people through structured physical fitness training, nutrition education, and by encouraging healthy lifestyle behaviors. Prior to working with Students Run Oakland, Spencer spent over 20 years in high-tech and telecommunications industries in a variety of management roles. While working in the private sector, he was always passionate about community involvement and public policy. Spencer earned his Master in Public Administration and Bachelor degrees from Golden Gate University. In his spare time, he cycles, travels, and mentors inner-city male youth. Spencer believes strongly in our collective responsibility to work with our youth and provide them with opportunity and positive role models, which can ultimately change their destiny.
